Forestry Department offers real Christmas trees for sale

The Department of Forests has announced the sale of real Christmas trees to the public, sourced from forest plantation thinning operations.

The trees, primarily black and brutia pine with a limited number of fir trees, will be available at affordable prices.

Sales will run from November 27, to December 20, 2024 at nine forestry stations across Cyprus, including locations in Athalassa, Larnaca, Dekelia, Fasouri, Limassol, Paphos/Geroskipou, Yialia, Panagia, and Platania.

Trees will be available on weekdays only, from 8:00 to 14:30.

Department spokesman George Constantinou explained that prices vary by species and height:

Black Pine:

  • Up to 1.5m: €14
  • Up to 2.5m: €22
  • Up to 3m: €30
  • 3-5m: €55
  • 5-7m: €105
  • Over 7m: €200

Brutia Pine:

  • Up to 1.5m: €6
  • Up to 2m: €8
  • Up to 2.5m: €10
  • Up to 3m: €11
  • 3-5m: €45
  • 5-7m: €90
  • Over 7m: €160

A limited number of fir trees will be available at €60 for trees up to 2 metres.

The department reminds the public that cutting, possessing, or transporting Christmas trees without proper permits is illegal and punishable by fines up to €5,000 and/or imprisonment up to one year.

Private tree owners must obtain necessary permits and have trees stamped by the department before transport.

Constantinou noted that over 1,000 trees are sold annually through the department’s outlets, with the Athalassa station being the most popular location.
