These are Cyprus’s Christmas villages for 2024-2025

The Deputy Ministry of Tourism launched its annual Christmas Villages programme for 2024-2025 on Friday evening in Kalopanayiotis village, with Deputy Tourism Minister Kostas Koumis presiding over the inauguration ceremony.

The initiative, which has garnered positive feedback since its inception in 2021, aims to offer authentic experiences to both local and foreign visitors across various municipalities and communities.

It forms part of a broader strategy to enhance the country’s tourism product through specific quality labels and establish Cyprus as a year-round tourist destination.

This year, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism has announced a grant scheme for Community Councils and remote, mountainous, and frontier municipalities interested in organising Christmas Villages during the festive period from November 23, 2024 to January 6, 2025.

Eight locations have been selected for this year’s programme:

  1. Agros
  2. Deryneia
  3. Kalopanayiotis
  4. Kiti
  5. Kyperounta
  6. Laiki Geitonia in the walled city of Nicosia
  7. Lefkara
  8. Fikardou.

The selected destinations will feature festive decorations and wooden stalls selling local products and handicrafts.

Visitors can participate in craft and wine-gastronomy workshops, outdoor activities such as nature trail walking and cycling, village tours, and other special events.

The initiative will incorporate restaurants and accommodations in the broader areas surrounding the Christmas Villages, offering festive menus and traditional Cypriot breakfasts, thereby extending economic benefits to neighbouring communities.

The Deputy Ministry’s ultimate goal is to differentiate these Christmas Villages, with their distinct local character, from similar events in Cypriot cities and abroad.

The ministry plans to enhance the programme annually to attract both domestic and international visitors.

Further information about the programme and activities at each Christmas Village will be published on the dedicated website.
